A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Dear Friends,
By all accounts, 2009 was a noteworthy year for Asian Health Services.
First, we celebrated our 35th Anniversary. In 1974, AHS opened its doors as a one-room clinic. Today, we are a comprehensive primary health care center serving 20,000 patients annually. Our physicians provide medical, dental, behavioral health services to patients in English and nine Asian languages.
Next, we broke ground on a new satellite clinic located at East Lake Merritt. This clinic will have 10 new exam rooms and serve 5,000 new patients. At the new clinic, our providers will employ innovative and integrative models of patient care. The clinic will be named the Frank Kiang Medical Center after the entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of Metropolitan Bank.
In addition, we formally launched the Asian Health Services Foundation. As the philanthropic arm of AHS, the mission of the Foundation is to raise funds from individuals, corporations, and charitable foundations so as to increase the resources available to support the work of AHS in health care services and advocacy for the underserved.
Today, as the nation engages in the most active health care reform effort in the history of this country - as the nation grapples with the challenge of health care access for 47 million uninsured Americans - AHS continues to advocate for a culturally competent and truly universal health system. What is best for the patient and what is best for our community are always at the forefront of the mission of AHS.
After 35 years of service to the community - and as the nation marches toward a new era of health care for the underserved - AHS is more steadfast, more resolved than ever to serve the medical needs of our community.
Thank you for your support!
